Overview

The Vigilant Mortals are a secretive cult, ruled by the dragon Alnebo, the last of the first dragons. While on the surface they operate with mortal agents, the true nature of the cult is actually directed not by dragons per se, but by deities that work to keep mortals and titans in-line. The deities figured they could use dragons, acting as titans, to slay rogue titans and keep the mortals in check.

Lore and Beliefs

The Vigilant Mortals possess deep, forbidden knowledge about the true history of the world and the gods:

• They know that Bahamut and Tiamat were originally granted their divinity by other deities.
• They know the true nature of a dragon’s shape-changing ability and how it was historically used to divide the Dragonborn race.

History

Alongside the United Pantheon, the Vigilant Mortals orchestrated a grand conspiracy and betrayal in the year 702. They successfully convinced Alnebo, shape-shifted into the form of a dark elf, to lead an insurrection of the dark elves against Shaa Thalas, stealing The Vigor and retreating into the Underdark in exchange for the promise of godhood.
