Description
Looks like a black tabaxi but more panther than housecat. He comes from the Dragonspine Mountains in the Sundered Lands. Has 9 form. They are aware of what each is experiencing and share their memories completely. He always keeps two in the Sundered Lands, his home from long ago, but spreads the others out across the world.
When one happens to die, a new one reappears after some time in The Sundered Lands. The reappearance of another form takes as many years as forms remaining. If 8 forms remained, it would take 8 years for the 9th and final form to reappear. If only 1 form remained, in only 1 year another would appear, then in 2 years, another.
When the Sundered Lands disappeared long ago, Melanism lost connection to the two forms he keeps there. He is scared what would happen if one of his forms die. Within the Sundered Lands, it is seen that the two went catatonic. More forms were outside the Sundered Lands, so that is where the connection stayed.
Melanesim wants desperately to collect the pages, hoping to bring back his two forms and assurance of how his reappearances work.

He infiltrates the Men of Hidden Honor, befriending Zalafrin, as a tool to collect the pages for himself. Originally, Fire Melanesim tries to just steal the pages from Kriv, but that ends poorly as Ka’Charo attacks and kills him. This deeply angers Melanesim, who is unsure if that body will reappear ever. He begins assembling all of his bodies in an effort to collect the pages. Another Melanesim comes upon Balian, who he knows has some of the pages. He kidnaps him and soon discovers he needs Kriv to convince Balian to open the device that stores the pages. Needing to manipulate Kriv but also angry at Ka’Charo, Venom Melanesim joins the party while the rest travel to The Deep for the confrontation. After ensuring Ka’Charo is dead he intends to tell them of the captive with the last pages, but not that he is the captor. The Fall brings the Sundered Lands back but to re-establish connection to the catatonic bodies Melanesim needs to touch them. He is not aware of this aspect of his ability, so Melanesim continues his plan to manipulate Kriv.
When he attacks the Three Titans at his temple in The Deep, they unknowingly destroy the 6 remaining bodies outside of the Sundered Lands. With the two still alive, though catatonic, in 3 years, a body will appear. He will touch the other two bodies, and in 4 years Melanesim will have 5.
