Description

Lived in Farfield his whole life. Married Jenny Thatcher and raised a son, Arwen, who became Farfield‘s priest. He served as the town’s Apothecary and Healer. Garland tended to farm animals and the locals, well versed in common conditions and injuries (though he sent truly bad cases out to Summergate). Garland and Jenny were elderly before the fall and their son was in his 50’s. Arwen died of a heart attack, a child-less priest. This devastated Garland and Jenny. After this, Jenny started getting a forgetful and confused. Garland was a devoted husband and they continued to live a happy life together.

In the fall, Garland became about 8 years old while Jenny became about 40. Jenny took care of young Garland. With her mind cleared of old age, taking on the little boy reminds her of raising her son.

They have an pleasant new life, but it is cut tragically short when The Shadows came through town. In their ploy to be seen as hero’s one of the skeletons they sent into town killed Jenny.

Skullcrusher took the orphaned boy and handed him off to Dario as an apprentice. Garland grew up, again, under the tutelage of the great artificer. During these years, starting in 3703, Dario protected Farfield from hostile intrusions while mentoring the young Garland. Dario was stricken with the boy who seemed wise and intelligent beyond his years. Never a family man, Dario raised him as a son of sorts and taught him everything he knew. By the year 3722, when Garland was 28 years old, Dario became too old for his work and handed off his contacts and network to Garland. Garland then established himself as a powerful magic broker, driven by a desire for revenge against Jenny’s killer.

Garland quickly discovers it was Los that most directly killed her by summoning the skeletons. He gathers an old worker of Dario’s, Alaric, the most talented known artificer. He has Alaric craft a sheath capable of destroying the Darkest Blade and the litch’s soul along with it.

Alaric is kidnapped from Garland by Tellani. Garland attends The Exchange in Capsin, where he hires The Dragonslayers to find and return Alaric. Meanwhile, Alaric completes the sheath under Tellani‘s misdirection. After Tellani has collected the sheath, The Dragonslayers locate where Alaric had been hidden away. They come to meet up with Garland and tell him about the Vigilant Morals base, Tellani having the sheath.

Garland decides he might still be able to use Tellani and the sheath to serve his goal.
